Checklist to prepare you for the move from Analogue to Digital

A checklist below helps highlight several important considerations for those making the switch to digital phone systems: 

C.L.A.P.  

Communications  

• Who gets the communications from the phone company, e.g if your grandma gets it will she understand it? 

Logistics  

• Who will make the change? Does your Mum or Grandad live alone? Are they going to be ok to make the switch with the new router? 

• Will the router plug in to the master easily? 

• Watch out for scammers who trying to sell you services to help you on this 

Adjustments 

• Will the existing devices plug in to the new ports? 

• Older devices like alarms or fax machines may require adapters to work with new digital systems 

Power 

• The new digital systems (VoIP or fibre) rely on electricity. If there’s a power cut, there will be no phone service. It’s important to have a backup plan, such as a mobile phone or a battery-powered backup system for the router. 

How can you get ready? 

• Audit 

• What devices have you got? 

• Do you need to change? 

• Contact your service providers 

• Ask your service provider will the devices work when you switch them 

• Do they have solutions to help you 

• Contact your phone company 

• Ask for their advice 

• If it is your grandparent highlight to them they are vulnerable 

• Local Authority 

• Ensure that any telecare services (emergency call systems for seniors, medical alerts, etc.) have your phone numbers safely stored and are transferred to the new system. This is important to ensure vulnerable individuals can still access support when needed.
