Katie Thorn joined a panel with the Care Workers Charity to discuss AI in social care

October 10th 2024

Katie Thorn, Project Lead for Digital Care Hub, was part of an engaged panel sessions hosted by the Care Workers Charity for Professional Care Workers Week.

In this Professional Care Workers’ Week 2024 webinar, experts discussed the future of AI in social care, focusing on the ethical and responsible use of generative AI. A new guidance document, co- written by care workers, was launched, outlining best practices for integrating AI into care services. The panelists emphasized the potential of AI to improve efficiency while maintaining the human element of care. Next steps include the widespread adoption of the guidance, further research into AI applications, and ongoing collaboration between stakeholders to ensure AI serves as a support tool rather than a replacement in social care.

The Digital Care Hub team successfully completed their 3 peaks climb in Yorkshire where they raised money for the incredible work of The Care Workers Charity (CWC).

There are 1.5 million care workers in the UK, contributing to one of the largest workforces, and caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

For the UK’s care workers, early starts, long hours and mentally draining work are part and parcel of the job. As a result, it’s all too easy for illness, or other unforeseen circumstances, to push them beyond their financial limits.

The Care Workers Charity’s mission is to advance the financial, professional and mental wellbeing of social care workers by making grants, signposting to resources and providing access to services.

Since 2020 the CWS have been able to support over 12,100 care workers in need and we would love to be able to help them support more.

There  is still time to donate to their amazing climb, Katie Thorn is fundraising for The Care Workers Charity (justgiving.com)
