Pledge by tech suppliers on the responsible use of AI in social care

Introduction

The rapid advancement and widespread adoption of AI technology represents both an extraordinary opportunity and a critical responsibility for technology providers. This pledge has been developed to establish a common framework of ethical principles and commitments for organisations implementing AI systems in their software and services.

The following commitments reflect the collective insights of technology leaders, ethicists, civil society organisations, and industry experts. They are designed to be aspirational and practical, providing clear guidance while acknowledging the complex challenges inherent in AI development and deployment.

Through this pledge, signatories join a community of technology providers committed to ensuring AI systems are developed and deployed in ways that benefit humanity while safeguarding against potential harms. The principles and commitments outlined below represent our shared vision for responsible AI implementation.

The signatories to this pledge undertake to publish an annual statement on how they have honoured the pledge. As this work develops, a full evaluation framework will be part of ongoing discussions.

Prologue to the Pledge

To deliver the benefits and mitigate any of the risks identified for stakeholders, we, the members of the Technology Working Group of the Oxford Project: The Responsible Use of Generative AI in Social Care  pledge to uphold the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and collaboration in our work and commit specifically to the points below.

For people and organisations using our software, our signing of this pledge demonstrates that we have rigorously evaluated the software and implemented effective risk management measures

This pledge will be reviewed on a regular basis and evolve to become a source of good practice for technology suppliers using AI in the Social Care Sector.
